We will also have members of the VCCofWA with a selection of military vehicles. Members of the Perth Volunteer Rifles will also be in attendance and with a bit of luck we may be able to have them make some noise with an excellent display of colonial firearms in action. Need something identified? come and ask one of our members.
This years theme is *SPECIAL FORCES* so if there is anyone who would like to display any uniforms, accoutrements or weapons of the special forces, please contact us

Aust Post/Police Licensing
While problems still exist, Australia Post and the WA Police are assuring us they are doing everything possible to try to make the system work. Staffing problems are a major concern at the Firearms Licensing Branch.
If you are experiencing problems with your collector applications, please contact one of the commitee members and we will endeavour to help solve the issue.
Firearms licensing to Australia Post
It has been confirmed that as of mid November, all firearm licensing will be conducted through Australia Post. No licensing of firearms will be done at any police stations. Applications will be available online or at your local post office. More to follow
2009 Militaria Fair
The 2009 Militaria fair has been hailed the best yet, with record numbers attending and glowing reports from buyers and sellers alike. This years theme also proved to be extremly popular as there was great interest in the displays and a barrage of questions for our exhibitors. Once again we were privilaged to have the Military Vehicles Club attending with some excellent examples of period jeeps, trucks, armoured cars, artillery pieces and bikes. Not to be outdone, The Perth Volunteer Rifles also put on their terrific and noisy demonstration of colonial firearms.
Many thanks to the helpers and members who give up there time to make the fairs such a success.
On The Road
Yes, the WA Arms and Armour Society monthly meeting is going on the road. First stop, Bunbury Details and confirmation of the date will be in the monthly newsletter.
The commitee has decided on the theme for this years upcoming 2 day fair. I has been decided that due to the death of the last surviving WWI veteran, this years theme will center on the Great War. The details are yet to be finalised, so if you have any sugestions or would like to contribute, please don't hesitate to contact us.
The firearms review is still ongoing. At this stage, no details have been released although we understand that one of the changes to be implimented will be the requirement of re-licensing firearms on an open license every 5 years. We also understand that in the future, all firearms transactions must take place through a licensed dealer. We believe that this policy is to bring Western Australia into line with the eastern states. As mentioned earlier, Australia Post will handle all applications for firearm licenses. The cost of each application is also set to increase as a result of the proposed changes.
Licensing Update
While the firearms review appears to be on indefinate hold, new firearms licensing proceedures are on the horizon. The process will involve applications as rumoured through Australia Post. The applications will be forwarded on to firearms licensing section for processing. Once processed, applicants will be informed and those applications that are successful will be forwarded a license. In the case of an addition, a new updated license will be issued. The new license will enable the applicant to then take possesion of the firearm.
The rumoured new process will mean applicants will no longer have to go to police stations to license firearms and will now allow for more police to be allocated to the front line. the new process should be of benifit to all parties including shooters, collectors, police and the community.
Just a quick reminder of our upcoming swap meet in April. If you would like to enquire about becoming a seller and wish to book a table, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Another rumour making the rounds is the government has decided to shaft the RSL's that were promised Army Leopard Tanks for displays. The government has decided it will be too expensive and that our veterans are just not worth the cost!!!
Please be advised a DSM and sevice medals were stolen from Fremantle hospital recently, If you are offered a cheap DSM, please ensure it is legit and not stolen. If you have any info on these medals, please contact us and we will return them, no questions asked!!!
Militaria Fair & Firearms Review
A big thank you to all who attended the 2008 WAAAS Militaria Fair. We would also like to thank all those who helped with the setting up, running, and clearing up. Special mention must go to Tony Snr and Lorraine for their extra efforts in making this years the best yet. More later...
The latest info we can gather at this stage is that the new coalition government will be reviewing and amending the review. With that being said, there has been no timetable at this stage for when this may be conducted. There has also been a rumour circulating since before the State Election that the licensing of firearms is being linked with the "Post Office".
Annual Militaria Fair Update: September 20-21 (2008)
Due to popular demand, The Knife Manufacturers will be attending and showing off their unique skills in the manufacture of edged implements.
Preparations are well underway for our best ever fair with a huge machine gun and .303 rifle display, swords, knives, bayonets, books, medals, badges, uniforms, ordnance, antique and sporting firearms, military vehicles, plus over 90 tables of military related items.
Dont miss it, and tell you friends.
Western Australian Firearms Review Update
The update is, there is no update !!! Due to the calling of the State election, the review cannot be submitted to the government as it is now only an interim government. Should the opposition win government, it is also possible they may reject the current proposals and request a new review be conducted.
As before, as soon as we hear anything, we will let you know.
Annual Militaria Fair, September 20-21
After another successful swapmeet, just a reminder of our upcoming annual militaria fair at the Cannington showgrounds.
We anticipate this year to be the best ever with the largest ever machine gun (de-activated) display to be seen in WA, also there will be a comprehensive Lithgow and Lee Enfield .303 rifle display, bayonets with matching rifle display, pre 1946 service pistol display, early colts, swords, uniforms and accoutrements etc.
Don't miss the Perth volunteer Rifle & Artillery Association and Westralian Great War Living History Association demonstration as the boys let fly with early colonial firearms. Demonstration starts at 1.00pm.
Also, check out the military vehicle display.
With the growing popularity of the fair, the society will be utilizing both halls, apart from the excellent displays planned for this year, there will be the usual sellers in attendance for that chance to pick up a bargain.
If you require any further details or information, please don't hesitate to contact us.
See you at the fair ! !
Western Australian Firearms Legislation review
The Society will do it's best to keep members and those interested, updated as to any changes to the Western Australian Firearms Regulations regarding collectable firearms.
At this stage, it is our understanding that while there will be changes to the WA Firearms Legislation, any changes in regards to collectable firearms will be minimal.
Also, it is our understanding that the review is almost complete and will be submitted to the relevant minister shortly.
